Dominica Claribelle
Dominica Claribelle is an award-winning graphic novelist, painter & educator acknowledged for creating rich narratives through a diverse range of mediums and varying art styles. Within 5+ years as a creative, her multidisciplinary practice has spanned from entertainment art and galleries, to publishing and education.
Dominica pursued the field of Illustration throughout her adolescent years in China, Malaysia, and in the UK post-pandemic. Her travel-filled youth and rich exposure of different cultures has led her practice to take focus on observations of the modern world, explorations of self identity, as well as the cultural influences of her Indonesian-Chinese roots.
In 2023, she released her debut self-published comic series At Our Peril in collaboration with British writer Mike Ranahan, which received international acclaim and brought her recognition by UK’s leading comics commentary website Broken Frontier as one of the ‘Six Artists to Watch in 2024’. That same year, she held her first solo comic art exhibition in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, upon the release of the series’ second issue.
Dominica is currently working on her first full-length graphic novel Finding Home, which won the UK’s Caliburn Prize 2024, set to be published with Avery Hill Publishing in 2027. She also spends time educating the art community in her hometown Tangerang, and enjoys exploring the city to window shop & cafe-hop.
